Rick's Gear

Below is a picture of the pedalboard. It's large, but really not very elaborate. There are just two devices on it, the RC-50 looper and the FC-300. Other than that, there are just a pair of volume pedals and two Roland foot switches. These are big items, though, so it took a large board to hold them. Because this is a top view, you can't really see that the looper and its volume pedal are on a platform above the level of the FC-300. The little tan doohickeys you see just below the RC-50 power supply are spare RJ-11 connectors held to the side of the platform with Velcro.

The whole thing, lid included, probably weighs about forty pounds. That's way heavier than I'd like, but there's really not much to do for it. It's really nice to just set down the pedalboard, open it up, and have everything laid out just the way you want it.

This rig requires a bit of practice to drive. For one thing, the synth volume is full on when you switch to a patch, regardless of the current position of the synth volume pedal. Thus, when you switch to a new patch you have to do some maneuvering to make sure you're not suddenly blasting away on the GR-33. Also, if you touch the volume control on the guitar, the synth volume immediately jumps to 100% regardless of the volume pedal position. Thus, if you're using a patch that has both the synth and the guitar active you cannot use the guitar's volume knob. If you do, your synth volume will instantly go to 100%; probably not what you want. If anyone knows of a way to circumvent this issue, I'd certainly be happy to hear about it.
